Ready for summer vacation? Load this episode up while you bask under the red hot day-star! Tan your brain with awesome glowing facts: the (kind of gross) history of the icecream cone, weird trivia about daylight saving time, wacky watermelon stories, the inspiration behind the Slip N Slide, and the summer nectar of the gods - Slurpee. Summer jams lyrics quiz. And what makes a movie a "blockbuster"? Why is it even called that?

Howdy folks;
Ummm... actually...

A note on why may have chosen the pufferfish as their mascot, in addition to its shrinking and expanding nature:

The pufferfish has the smallest, most compact genome of any known vertebrate, and is approximately 1/10th the size of the human genome. I think their use of the pufferfish is an allusion to the compactness of their URLs, just like the fugu genome.

Scroll down for the superlatives.

However, there's no mention of the genome size of puffers in's own PR chaff.

If the fugu were more genetically tractable and easier to work with (shorter generation time, ease of breeding and cost of care, etc), it'd be a better model organism for study. Fortunately, they're a pain in the ass to work with, so we don't use them as a model vertebrate organism. Instead, most of the basic science is done in frogs (cheap, easy, fast, large embryos) and mice (most similar to humans without being expensive like primates). Sea squirts and sea cucumbers are handy too.

Hi Guys, great show. I am not sure if it's Colin or Chris who risks a violent rage @ 32:19 by listening to the Slurpee song. Does he have misophonia? I also cannot take 'food noises' and had to skip through that section. Perhaps this might be a topic for a future show? Keep up the great work!

Hi "Mates"
Just a question from "Down Under". Our Firefox logo is definitely a little firery fox wrapped around the world. aint no bear. Do you have a different one in Yanky land??
By the way just to let you know I always listen to your show while out walking for exercise and often get some strange looks when i answer the quiz out loud.
Love the show keep it up and maybe a little more on Aussie land could get a lot of "WOW,s" out of Karen with the strange things we have here. Not all of its deadly also.
