The hills are alive with SO MANY FREAKING FACTS ABOUT MUSIC: the oldest instrument of the history of mankind, notable moments in recording history, the first talking doll recordings (creepy!), music scandals on TV quiz, the actual lowdown on hidden secret messages and the whole backward-song craze that swept the nation. Where exactly "is the place in France where the naked ladies dance"?, and just why singing the Happy Birthday song might get you in legal trouble.

ALSO: Fictional workplace quiz, Chicago World's Fair

RUNTIME: 55 minutes 50 seconds

Thanks to the audio historians & experts at FIRST SOUNDS who researched and recreated the phonautogram recordings. Audio archeology!

LOVED the music episode, guys! I'm a huge music buff. I'd heard of the phonautograph device before, and it was awesome to hear the actual replays.

Two little pieces of trivia on the topics you covered. Pink Floyd had put a joke backwards message in the song Empty Spaces: "Hello, hunters. Congratulations. You've just discovered the secret message. Please send your answer to Old Pink, care of the funny farm." Also, there's debate over who decided it, but the reason standard CDs were designed to hold 74 minutes was to hold the entirety of Beethovan's Ninth Symphony on a single disc.

Keep up the fantastic work!

Madonna sang Happy Birthday to her dad in the movie Truth or Dare, but maybe she got to use it free since she was signed with Warner at the time.

I believe that "Funny enough" may be an auditory palindrome, but I don't know how to play a recording backwards, so I can't be sure.
