*no explicit language. But poop does come up sometimes all the time.

For the Nerds

You might say:

An hour-long youtube video? Pfft, I have better things to do!

Whatever your excuse is, punch its face off because if you're a trivia junkie with the sidequest of learning more about the world, then you really shouldn't miss this: Stephen Colbert interviewing science rockstar Neil deGrasse Tyson. The actual interview start about 6 minutes in.

Just throw it in the background while you work or whatever you do. It's hilarious, inspirational, and fantastic.

We made it to episode 5! And to celebrate, we recorded an all-quiz episode to get your brain into top fighting shape. Colin's got a pretty *intriguing* food + drink round of trivia, and he introduces a potential euphenism for the nether region of a cow (what is up with us and animal nether regions?) Dana's got some q's on psychic and astrology. And Karen broke out some Double Jeopardy! questions from the official Jeopardy! boardgame.

RUNTIME: 43:14

PS. We mentioned the mnemonic Karen made to memorize the Chinese zodiac animals in order. It was in one of our early Kickstarter updates, and it's posted below. Enjoy!

Brain Love + Updates!

HOLY CRAYOLA CRAYONS! Well, color me shocked because this week, iTunes decided to feature GJB! on their main podcast home page. We are so honored to get highlighted, and we're even more honored to be next to TITANBOA: MONSTER SNAKE. Sssssssspectacular!

We're almost finished with sending out all of our Kickstarter backer rewards. And for those of you who already got them, we hope you like them! We know Miss Elisha liked hers very much with this photo she took.

We know we have some volume consistency problems in our episodes. We have remedied some of the volume pops (THAT CHRIS KOHLER SURE IS LOUD), removed some of the ambient noise, and re-uploaded all of our episodes so far. We also found out that the files sound pretty different depending on how listeners are getting the episodes. We're looking into this and we promise we'll get to a happy medium in future episodes. Thanks for being patient!

Ep 4: Thomas Butt-Headison and Other Invention Tales

We gab about the invention of cornflakes, air-conditioning, tampons, Ouija board, Viagra, and more. Learn the escalator's deep dark secret, and why all the secretaries in the world should salute the Monkees. And who knew that Tommy Edison was such a class-A jerkface? Seriously!

ALSO: Pop Quiz, etymology factoids, highly rated movies, and top film quotes of all time

RUNTIME: 48:48

Featured interlude music:

"Bright Idea" by Mother Mother  Amazon | iTunes  | Spotify

Ep 3: You Want Truffle Fries With That?

Oh boy. How do we even begin to describe this episode? The original idea was to talk about expensive and luxurious gourmet food and the opulent stories behind them... but... well, let's just say we took a few intriguing turns and found ourselves in the absolutely eccentric (and dark) sector of the haute cuisine world. We really can't give too much away.

Prepare yourself. Seriously.

ALSO: Pop Quiz, foreign foods, weird name origins of companies

RUNTIME: 52:47

Featured interlude music:

"If I Had $1,000,000" by Barenaked Ladies  Amazon | iTunes  | Spotify

"You like me!"

When Sally Field won her second Oscar for 1984's Places in the Heart, she gushed:

"I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"

And that's how we feel here at Good Job, Brain!

Though we've only just begun, Good Job, Brain! has surpassed the 10,000 mark of unique podcast downloads. And as of right now, we're one of the top podcasts on iTune's Games & Hobbies section, and THE NUMBER ONE podcast in the Hobbies sub-category.

Yes! We have beat out all those other podcasts about knitting and guns.

(And you know how much people love knitting and guns.)

We also have been getting some awesome reviews on iTunes as well...and not all of them talk about sherry enemas!

So thank you, dear listeners. The podcasting world is still fairly new to us, and we are learning and figuring things out as we go. So thanks for all of your support and patience!

Ep 2: Once Upon a Gruesome Time

The real versions of popularized fairytales often feature gruesome deaths, torture methods, and freaky sex acts. We dish about some of the classic stories along with their more scandalous folklore origins. Find out what "Rapunzel" actually means, and learn why Charles Dickens hates Hans Christian Andersen's face.

ALSO: Pop Quiz, Hot Shot!, how to memorize pi, "First in Line"

RUNTIME: 48 minutes 44 seconds

Featured interlude music:

"Fairy Tale" by Frank Sinatra  Amazon | iTunes  | Spotify

Ep 1: Candy is Dandy but Liquor is Quicker

Kanpai! Sláinte! Cheers!

It's our inaugural episode! So why not douse yourself in eccentric facts about liquor, spirits, and libations? Seagull wine, beer laws, cocktail origins, "alternative" imbibation methods, and more. We hope you enjoy our first show!

ALSO: Pop Quiz, Hot Shot!, Music Round, and how to memorize the provinces of Canada

RUNTIME: 44 minutes 30 seconds

Featured interlude music:

"Tequila" by The Champs  Amazon | iTunes  | Spotify

"Blame it" by Jamie Foxx ft. T-Pain  Amazon | iTunes | Spotify

Kickstarter Update #6: We're GOING TO VEGAS WITH YOUR MONEY!

No, just kidding.

Reno, maybe.

Hello darling backers! Well, I guess you can tell from your bank account that all of our funding cleared and we got the green light to proceed with our plan to make the best damn trivia podcast possible. Here are some update highlights:

Backer Rewards!

Yup, many of the rewards have been designed and are off to production. Here's a glimpse at some of the prizes (Thank You card, Smart Cookie pin, mustache sticker, and my personal favorite - the Jurassic Park-inspired "Clever Girl" sticker):

Thank You Backer List is Up!

You'll see that we listed most of our backers under the Superfriends tab up top. COWABUNGA!

We Got Equipment + Venue!

We will be recording the first episode of Good Job, Brain! at the famous Jazzschool in Berkeley. I think that just recording from there adds a lot of character and vibe to our show. I AM SO PSYCHED!

We Got a PO Box!

In case if anyone wants to send us locks of hair (please don't), we now have good ol' fashion snail mail set up. Here it is:

PO Box 2928

Berkeley, CA 94702

We still don't have a solid date for our podcasting debut. But it should be soon. So stay tuned!

Kickstarter Update #5: This was a triumph

We raised 150% of our goal amount in 30 days from 100 wondrous backers.

Well, how about dem apples.

Of course, this calls for another video with my dog in it. (This time, it's the other dog, so it's totally cool.) We'd like to give everyone a semi-preview of one of our future segments!

Whether you're at home or at work, why not gather the fam or the coworkers around, and play a little bit of a music challenge we made for ya?
