Podcast Statistics, Downloads, & Metrics

Hi all, Karen here! I figured I'd share GJB podcast statistics with everyone. Even though podcasts have been around for years now, it seems like there's still an air of mystery and misreporting regarding measuring podcast performance. And I'm hypothesizing that because podcasters themselves aren't really sure, they're less inclined to make their podcast numbers public. Are these numbers high? Low? What's the norm? Are downloads more important than stream plays? What's better - measuring monthly stats or weekly stats? Double rainbow - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Obviously, I don't have any of these answers but what I do have are GJB numbers for curious minds out there. Feel free to cite or use this info if it helps!

FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2014

Downloads: 259,737
Stitcher Downloads: 20,988
Soundcloud plays: 49,000

It's safe to assume that someone who downloaded an episode from iTunes probably aren't listening to the same episode off of Stitcher, and Soundcloud stats are based off of number of stream plays rather than downloads. So as you can see, it's a bit messy when figuring out just how many people are listening to the show, and figuring out what your real reach is. There are people who might listen or download one episode multiple times - but there are also families and groups of people who listen off of one iTunes download all at the same time. We just hit 1 million followers on Soundcloud, and even though it's not an easy feat, I doubt all 1 million of those people are actively and consistently listening to the show.

Anyways, like I said - just total double rainbow. :)

We're taking a break this week!

(Yup, that's ginger ale-flavored Kit Kats.)

Sorry everyone, no new episode this week! We're taking a break and gearing up for our big 100th/2nd anniversary ...celebrating YOU!

Special Reminder

There's still time for audio submissions for our big 1-0-0 episode. We want to hear how you GJB - record a message, a song, a skit, a jungle or jingle, or a shanty and we might feature it in next week's show. You can email it to us or you can call in and leave a voicemail in our Happy 100 Hotline: (678) 820-6264 (made possible by listener Ben!)

We are also taking listener questions about us or about the show! You can tweet us (@GoodJobBrain) or ask them on our FB thread HERE.
